This Gulf standard is concerned with acrylic, polyester and mixed acrylic-polyester resin based solid surface materials sheet (SSM) with aluminum hydroxide as filler and manufactured as sheets. The SSM sheets are 6mm or more in thickness intended for vertical and horizontal engineering applications and also suitable for thermoforming operations. Historically solid surface materials (SSM) have been used mainly as a horizontal countertop material. Today, the use of SSM has evolved from simple counter or tabletops to include wall cladding, furniture assemblies, sculpture, food service areas and medical care facilities. Selling a material and labeling it, as SSM must meet the requirements set forth in these standards to insure product performance and public safety.
