1.1 This Standard specifies the minimum technical requirements for the passive fireproofing of all structural steelwork in plant structures, structural supports for equipment / valves / pipeline / piping and elevated pipe racks (except covered buildings) at the new and existing Onshore Facilities in GCC countries. 1.2 This Standard covers only the type of passive fireproofing materials to be used and method of application; and does not address the aspects of fire hazards, fireproofing zones or the extent of fireproofing, which shall be applied in compliance with API 2218 “Fireproofing Practices in Petroleum and Petrochemical Processing Plants” in general. In case, fire-risk analysis is specified by the respective Oil & Gas Company, probable fire envelope may govern as worst scenario. 1.3 The passive fire protection for equipment (vessels, heaters, pumps), isolation valves etc. handling flammable materials as well as covered buildings in the fireproofing zones are outside the scope of this Standard and shall be dealt separately.
